My experience and expertise
While specialising in relationship and couple counselling, I also have years of experience providing anxiety and stress management support. This includes individual and group counselling as well as developing and running training workshops and courses in academic, health and organisational settings.
Working within the private and voluntary sectors, NHS primary care, secondary school and university counselling services in Scotland and Canada has given me extensive experience helping people with psychological, social, emotional and behavioural difficulties including relationship issues, generalised anxiety disorder, panic attacks, social anxiety, depression, perimenopause, menopause, managing difficult moods, grief and loss, eating disorders, gender related issues, addictions, low self-esteem, lack of assertiveness, managing life transitions/change, career/work related issues and general well-being.
I’ve also enjoyed over 12 years of counselling students within university and higher education settings including developing and running a busy University counselling service. Having been through the education system myself, worked as a primary school teacher, college lecturer and as student counsellor, I feel I am in a privileged and valuable position to help students of all ages address and navigate successfully through the many challenges that being a student brings.
